History of CMI Madagascar Mission

CMI Madagascar Mission is started during the ministry of Fr. Provincial, Eusebius Kizhakudan in 1986. Three father of CMI Devamatha Province, Fr. Kuriakose Cheeran, Fr, Paul Moses Chackkalackal and Fr. Davis Kolengadan (later he joined Benedictine Order) were sent to study French in Rome. After six months they studied French and received visa to Madagascar in March 1987. There they studied Malagasy, the local language of the people for six months and began to work in the area entrusted to CMI Devamatha Province, the civil district of Mahaboo of the Diocese of Morondava. After ten years fathers Louis Raj Porathur and Fr. Johnson Thaliyath started their mission work at Madagascar. Later Fr. Chacko Thalakkottur, Fr. Shaju Aloor Kizhakoot and Fr. Johnson Thekkudan joined with them.

At the beginning members of Madagascar mission were visiting mission stations on foot and by bullock carts. Right now the members of CMI Devamatha Province focused in the field of Education and Medical services.
